We are really pleased to add Blairvadach Outdoor Centre as our latest supporters. With over 45 years’ experience, Blairvadach is a sector leading provider of quality outdoor education and training. Part of Glasgow City Council’s Education Services they specialise in the personal development of the City’s young people through outdoor and adventurous education.
As well as their main centre in Helensborough they also run activities at their inner city base at Pinkston Basin, just north of Glasgow City Centre, next to the new Sight Hill developments. From there they run both paddlesports courses and also a John Muir Award course which is based around the conservation of wild areas, mainly around the canal system of Glasgow. They therefore see the central role of the City's green and blue spaces at the heart of developing our young people.
Instructor Ruaidhri Murphy puts it better than we could; “Our goal at Blairvadach is to improve the health, well-being and education of Glasgow’s young people through the medium of adventurous activities. We promote engagement with the outdoors from both within Glasgow at our city centre base as well as at our residential centre. Hence we believe in vision of a Glasgow National Park City where access to outdoor spaces and facilities is something that is available to all and engaged with on a regular basis”.
We've loved some of their recent projects to maintain outdoor connections - a fantastic project to make orienteering maps available for all Glasgow schools and their great #BlairvadachBytes series - check it out on their YouTube channel.
